Treading lightly the path to enlightenment.

Solace For Solitude

Peaceful Evening

“I learned to look more upon the bright side of my condition, and less upon the dark side, and to consider what I enjoyed, rather than what I wanted: and this gave me sometimes such secret comforts, that I cannot express them; and which I take notice of here, to put those discontented people in mind of it, who cannot comfortably enjoy what God has given them, because they see and covet something he has not given them. All our discontents about what we want appeared to me to spring from the want of thankfulness for what we have.”

– Daniel Defoe, Robinson Crusoe

“There is something sacred about stillness. The world has not changed outside our bounds, we just realize peace and tranquility are possible, if we make space for it.”

– Ed Lehming, From Where I Stand

“If your environment is poor, blame yourself. Tell yourself you are not poet enough to call forth its richness.”

– Rainer Maria Rilke

   Horas non numero nisi serenas.

“I count only the happy hours.”

Slainte,

Paz

  2. Especially loved these and was inspired by the Crusoe deeply, as I declare I have been prone to thinking way too much about what I want at times. I am going to email you when I get the chance. I am so grateful for your presence in my life-but haven’t had a day recently, without obligations. Things are slowing down a bit. Thank you for my first read of the day- What a sweet way to begin. x Michele

    • Good to hear things are settling for you, Michele.

The quote from Robinson Crusoe is printed and posted where I can read it daily. It is a pennant, a tartan, part of a foundation. Such bare and simple truths never lose their value in our lives, through highs and lows, good times and hard times. These are the things to seek out, and to which we must cleave.

      Take care of yourself, Rabbit.

      My best,
      Scott
